Running

I'm the fastest clydesdale in my age class.... that I know. Talk about being an oversized fish in a very small pond. Still, it's great exercise. I've always found running a great stress-reliever. And I'm running about as fast as I did about 5 years ago (when I started using CoolRunning.com to track my workouts).

I hope to post some pictures and race results here in the future. My big upcoming race is the Portland Maraton on Sunday, October 7th.

Favorite Places to Run

Minuteman Trail between Bedford and Somerville

It's a smooth, paved bicycle and multiuse path that gets a little crowded at certain times of the week, and most of the weekends; but it's mostly shaded, very flat, there are only about a dozen street crossings in the 12+ miles, and there's usually some pleasant company.

Trapelo Road - Forest Street - Beaver Street - Waverly St Loop

This is really my "home" course as my house is basically on it. It's a 4-mile loop (actually 3.95 according to my Garmin 205 GPS watch, and it's pretty challenging with some fairly long large hills no matter which way you run it.

Charles River Trail

While not as consistent as the Minuteman Trail, the Charles River Trail, all the way from Waltham to Boston, has some exceptionally beautiful parts and not too many road crossings. Like the Minuteman Trail, it's pretty flat. Unlike the Minuteman, it has some dirt sections, it's not quite as smooth, and it has some dirt sections (keeping away the roller bladers and the strollers). To Harvard Stadium and back to Waltham is about 15 miles. From Waltham, you could go all the way to the Science Museum in Boston and back and that would probably be over 25 miles.

Rancho San Antonio

Absolutely no cars in this bucolic but hilly park just northeast of Cupertino, CA. My buddy Clent and I used to solve the problems of the world as we jogged around these beautiful trails. There are some crazy hills, and some occassional wildlife on the trail, but this is one of the most beautiful places in the world to run.
